Medical Spanish For Health Professionals
via Internet
Course Description: This
course provides live lessons via Phone Internet with native Spanish
Speakers.
Students use a computer connection plus a telephone line to attend
the audio conferences. The computer accesses the lessons on the
Internet, as well as the teacher, who shares the lessons with all
of the students via Internet. Students interact with the teacher
by voice through the conference phone bridge in real time. As a
result, students hear and practice authentic everyday speech with
their teachers.
The course is introductory, and it is meant to allow English-speaking
healthcare professionals learn the basics of Medical Spanish for
better communication with non-English speaking, Hispanic patients.
The didactic material of course I includes introductory words and
phrases, greeting patients, parts of the body, regional and cultural
differences, colloquial terms and expressions, food, colors, helpful
phrases, numbers,time, and clothing.
The didactic material of course II includes main patient complaints,
taking vital signs, verb conjugation, giving instructions to patients,
vocabulary related to patient symptoms, and the doctor/patient
interview.
Minimum computer requirements include the following: Windows computer
(Pentium 1 GHz processor is preferred); Microsoft Internet Explorer
web browser version 5.0 or higher; an Internet connection plus
another phone line to hear the audio; Java-enabled browser; and
permission to use cookies.
Neither Apple Mac nor Netscape is supported.

for a four week course (8 hours); includes 2 sessions of 1 hour
each per week.
